Good value for a first-timer

I was looking to cut down on my monthly outgoings and found Uw. Decided to bundle my home insurance, gas, and electricity. I used a referral link from a friend and got the 50 pound bill credit which really sweetened the deal. Compared to my separate providers, this bundle really saved me a noticeable amount each month. The fixed price energy gave me peace of mind too. For someone trying to get the best value, this felt like a smart move. Pretty pleased with the savings.

Good experience overall

I decided to switch my dual fuel energy and broadband to Uw last month. The signup process online was pretty straightforward, took about 15 minutes. They said it would take 2 weeks to switch over the energy, and it actually happened in 13 days. My smart meter installation was free which was a nice bonus. The broadband router arrived quickly, and setting it up was easy enough, even for me. Customer support was helpful when I called about a question on my first bill, no long wait times. The multiservice discount is already showing, which is great. So far, the service has been reliable. I'm happy with the quality of the electricity and gas supply, and the broadband speed is consistent.

Easy switch, decent savings

Yeah, so I moved my gas and electricity over to Uw a few weeks ago. It was pretty easy to do online, just filled out some forms. The switch itself didn't cause any issues, everything just sort of worked. The first bill looked about right for what I was expecting, maybe a little cheaper than my old place. No complaints really, it's just energy, you know? It's fine.

Is it true they do a credit check when you sign up? My credit's not amazing right now and I don't want to get rejected after going through all the effort.

S Susan Smith 1 week ago
Yeah, pretty sure they do. Most utility companies do for new accounts, especially if you're bundling a bunch of services. It's standard practice.

I think they do, but it's not super strict, at least from what I've heard. They're more interested in getting you as a customer for all their services. Might be different if you're just getting one thing though.

so how do these referral codes work? my buddy told me to use his but i don't see anywhere to put a code on the site, is it just a link he sends?

R Richard 2 days ago
Yep, it's usually just a special link your friend gives you. You click it, sign up through that, and then you both get the credit. No separate code box or anything.

Don't worry about finding a 'code' box. Just make sure you sign up directly through your friend's unique referral link. That's how it tracks it and applies the bonus to your bill.

hey, was thinking about switching my energy and broadband over. i live in New York City, anyone know how long the broadband install usually takes there? trying to plan around it.

S Sarah Evans 1 week ago
It can vary a bit but when I switched in Philly, it took about 2-3 weeks from signing up to having it all hooked up. They usually give you a heads up on the exact date.

For energy, that's pretty quick, like a few days to a week for the switch to go through on their end. Broadband is the one that takes longer, usually a couple weeks for an engineer visit.

My current broadband contract with BT is almost up, and I don't want to pay any early exit fees. Does UW offer anything if I switch over and still have a few months left on my old contract?

L Leah Hall 1 week ago
I don't think they specifically cover early exit fees like some other providers do. Their 'switch guarantee' usually means they'll handle the process smoothly, not pay your old provider's penalties.

Afaik, they don't cover those fees directly. You might get a bill credit from a referral or bundle, but that's different from them paying your old company for breaking contract. Best to wait till your BT one is done.

Can I keep my current phone number if I switch to their mobile plans? I've had this number for ages.

K Katie Mitchell 2 weeks ago
Absolutely, that's a standard thing now with pretty much all mobile providers. You just need to ask your current provider for a PAC code and give it to UW when you switch.

Z Zach R. 1 week ago
Yeah, you can totally keep your number. Just make sure you get a PAC code from your old network, that's the key. UW will handle the rest when you sign up.
